Trump's religion

John McWhorter's 2015 DailyBeast article, “Antiracism, Our Flawed New Religion”, clarified what was confusing about contemporary black activism. He explained that opposition to racism used to be a political stance, but now it has every marking of a new “Blue State religion,” with both good and bad effects on American society.

Now Carl Hoffman's book, Liar's Circus: A Strange and Terrifying Journey Into the Upside-Down World of Trump's MAGA Rallies, does the same for Trumpism, which has become a new “Red State religion”. Hoffman's book takes readers with him into the heart of Trump's rallies, describing Trump supporters as decent, genuine folks, several of whom as became genuine friends.

There are many detailed reviews of Hoffman's book, starting with Goodreads link. To me, the only issue is that if Trump is not reelected, this book may be viewed as no longer relevant. That would be a sad mistake, because what Hoffman makes clear is that Trump's many supporters will not disappear. I believe we have to learn how to build a bridge to this sector of our electorate if we ever hope to move forward as a the democratic republic envisioned by our founders.
